If you are like me, and listen only to shows from "this day in history", I challenge you to find a date with better shows. Today we've got great shows from 77, 78, 79, 80, 83, 85, 88. Read the reviews, add up the downloads from these shows, and find me a better day except maybe NYE.

there is no 09/02/77...it's 09/03

03-24 has 1993, 1990, 1987, 1986, 1972, 1973

05-26 is a another day for good shows...1972, 1973, 1977, 1993 stand out

04-01 has 1991, 1990, 1993, 1980, 1985

12-28 has 1978, 1979, 1991, 1981, 1982

Hey don't forget to add 4-1-88 to those super April fools shows A grateful date if ever there was one and I completely agree with the 12-28 date also. Another thing I was exploring in what remains of the attics of my mind is shows on the 31st of any month. Just seems to me there are an inordinate amount of great shows that have occurred on that date number but maybe it's just me, anyway I do find myself more likely to grab a show if it's on the 31st lately due to this prejudice weather right or wrong. Cheers

I was at the 93 Barney show and I thought it was pretty good although I haven't listened to it since so can't be sure.
Edit: I am a dork and just realized that nioe is not some secret acronym but just a typo for nice I think. Boy do I feel dumb now

If it wasn't for William intellegence I never would have
known that the San Francisco Civic is in San Francisco,
or that the Oakland Arena is in Oakland, or that the
Boston Tea Party was held in Boston (I thought it was in

Hey Rasta ever listen to 4/12/82? I recalled a show that started w/ Iko and second set started with Man Smart/Woman Smarter. While many do not go for these tunes, much less in the same show, the rest of the setlist is solid and the performance is pretty darn solid from what I'm hearing (the AUD has some serious level issues in the first few moments).

04/12/82
Nassau Coliseum - Uniondale, NY
Set 1:
Iko Iko
New Minglewood Blues
Peggy-O
Mama Tried
Mexicali Blues
Bird Song
C.C. Rider
Tennessee Jed
Looks Like Rain
Deal

Set 2:
Man Smart-Woman Smarter
Sugaree
Estimated Prophet
Uncle John's Band
Drums
The Other One
Stella Blue
Sugar Magnolia

Encore:
Satisfaction

I always liked this one. There are a ton of latter day Stella's that get a lot of pub because Jer would go off vocally at the end. I like this one because the last 3 minutes is all Jerry guitar and the band jams right along with him

Wow, thanks Dave
Thats a keeper. I will have to check out dmilks sug-
gestions (review) too. And the 82, and all Tells. That will keep me busy, whhewww!
I hate the time I have to spend inbetween listening
to some GD.
I am just now got around to listening to yours; what
a good one. I had to go have a smoke after that one.

Jerry's voice seems to fall into all the right
spots. The harmonies are very nice. And you are right
on with that final solo. I would assume that Jerry is
playing Lightning Bolt. There are all the old discussions
that we have comparing Lightning Bolt to Rosebud and Tiger
(flat vs. robust) etc...
But Lightning Bolts tone really compliments this
Stella. I love the stop and start fanning Jerry pulls off
at the very end.
The 10-1-94 was longer, but Jerrys voice doesn't measure up
to the 9-17. And its just a tad too fast for my liking.

Looks like those first two shows of the 94 Shoreline run were pretty powerful.
Thanx again for the heads up one this one. Good lookin-out

Of course, I love the 68 show, but a decent one for the year before and the year after are right there, AND then, a couple from later on (eg, 77 one I was at ain't bad, and then a couple from the 80s I can't speak for).

Pretty amazing coincidence, eh?

Well after reviewing my recent posts of utter nonsense, that this much for sure can be surmised and I write this to myself so when I once again become sane {please} I might be the more wise as to what got me here.
1. Don't smoke cigarettes. It's actually the only drug that lived up to the demonization in high school filmstrips. And it's legal, go figure.
2. Try to stay away from the internet or anywhere you may be known or just better yet lock yourself away from humanity so you don't make an utter fool of yourself like your doing right this moment for at least 48 hours I'm hoping that's all it'll take.

they played it on friday the 13th (like the guy below, I was there - full moon/shooting star/"space" screens)

#

Greek Theatre, Berkeley, CA-- July 13, 1984
This show has its dull and bright moments-- but the "Dark Star" encore and the interesting transition of "Scarlet/Touch/Fire" make this a show worth listening to. The "Dark Star" lacks the spacey explorations that have made it so desirable, but Garcia takes it to some very interesting places. Just the fact they played it makes it exciting (I was there). The first set features a nice "Dupree's Diamond Blues" in the first set. Always was a pleasure to see the Dead play at the Greek Theatre-- especially at night. If you ever saw a show there-- then you know exactly what I'm talking about.

SET ONE Bertha-> Greatest Story Ever Told, Dire Wolf, CC Rider, Loser, Cassidy, Dupree's Diamond Blues, Hell In A Bucket-> Might As Well
SET TWO Scarlet Begonias-> Touch Of Gray-> Fire On The Mountain-> Women Are Smarter-> Drums-> The Wheel-> I Need A Miracle-> Stella Blue-> Sugar Magnolia
# ENCORE: Dark Star

My all time favorite STELLA: 4/19/82

overshadowed by the ravenspace this show is so well known for...but i've nevrr heard Jerry in better voice than on this stella, nor better accompaniment by Brent on keys...whole band is spot-on on this STELLA. Gonna make 'em shine.

I can't argue quantity with you however I always thought 3-18 was an interesting date if for no other reason, they played two concerts exactly 10 years apart at the exact same venue. Both of historic significance and neither one sucks.

http://www.archive.org/details/gd67-03-18.sbd.fink.10282.sbeok.shnf
This is a favorite early show of mine. Only Golden Road that I know of that you can listen to and an amazing Dancing In the Streets.

Jump ahead 10 years and the first Scarlet>Fire not to mention other goodies.

http://www.archive.org/details/gd77-03-18.sbd.unknown.254.sbeok.shnf

I know this is kind of like Jason Stark trivia, but i doubt another band can claim to have played the same place exactly 10 years apart.

did you already add up all the dl's for every day, or is that a challenge to drive the curious crazy???

6/9 is a pretty nice date

'73-RFK (Solid '73)
'76-Boston Music Hall (St. Stephen breakout)
'77-Winterland (Legendary)
'91-Buckeye Lake Music Center (Rubin and Cherise! plus a great 2nd set)
Don't know much about the other shows from that date but those four are rock solid.
